Today we will learn how to add a welcome message on a blogger blog which will show itself on blog load. Using a simple script you can give your every visitor a warm welcoming message. The better side of this code is your welcoming message will show only on HOME page, not on other article page. So your visitor will not get annoying see same massage everytime. Log in to blogger account.
Go directly to Design> Edit HTML page.
Search </body> and paste the code below just before it. You can find this </body> at the last line of a blogger blog html page.

Can not create file folder on newly installed Ubuntu [Solved]

Just install Ubuntu 10.04 on my friends machine. I keep two more partition on her 80 GB harddisk to store various files and folders. Both of them are formated as ext3 file system. After completing install we found that there is no any option to create new file or new folder/ directory on these two partitions. Actually this kind of activity options are disabled on right click drop down menu. Look at the screen-shot below.
This is happen for permission problem. This kind of function made to ensure critical secure environment. In this situation nobody (unauthorized user) can create new file or new folder/ directory or paste anything on that ext3 partition. Normally you can write on those partitions if you login as root. It also can happen on ext4 file system too. Now if you want to write anything on this partition then you must change permission to access that drive.

Solution:
Changing permission on any specific drive or partition is very easy. Just run the command below on terminal. Before doing it don't forget to mount all of your partition.

sudo chmod -Rf 777 /media/name

Here change the red word name with the specific drive name. The drive name can be sda1 or sda2 or anything in this way/ order or you can get the drive name from the title bar or a opened window of a specific drive. Look at the image below.
Write the drive name or number instead of red color word 'name' and press enter. You can get drive name pressing tab after the end of command media. That means type sudo chmod -Rf 777 /media/ and press tab button on keyboard. In my case after entering drive name, the whole line look like:

user@ubuntu:~$ sudo chmod -Rf 777 /media/45bd262c-2c1f-4219-a094-7ceca6313d82

Just run the command once, writing permission will change instantly. You wouldn't need to do anything again later. Oh, yes, you have to enter password to active the command.

open close CD tray by mouse click on ubuntu

There are a simple method to open and close CD/DVD ROM (or any disk drive) tray with a single mouse click.

To eject CD ROM Tray
Just type eject on terminal

To close CD ROM Tray
Type eject -t on terminal.

If you make two launcher using this commands. Change icon as your desire and add them on top panel, then it would be very curious for any windows user.

You can use eject /dev/sr1 command to specify a CD/ DVD drive if you have more then one.

Graphical 'MAN PAGE' on Ubuntu Linux

You know that man (manual) pages are open on terminal only. Sometimes it is hard to read any text on terminal. I don't like to read any text on darker background. I think reading texts should wrote on white background with black words. Here is a way to see Ubuntu manual pages in a GUI Mode.

Go to your home folder.
Press Ctrl+H
You can see all hidden files and folders.
Now search for ".bashrc" (without quots).
Open it with 'gedit'
Add the line below after the last line of this file.
man () { yelp "man:$@"; }
Save it.

Now try to open a man page on terminal. It will open with a graphical document viewer named YELP. See the screenshot above of this post. I use command 'man sudo' to take the image.

Blogger blog is not opening normally.

For somedays my Netgator.blogspot.com blog is not opening. I am using Grameen Phone mobile broadband internet service. When I found that my blog is not open then I tried to launch another blogger blog. Result is same. Any blogspot blog failed to open from my side. I tried Hidemyass.com and understand that it is a ip problem. Blogger authority might find any illegal operation caused from Grameen phone ip (internet protocol) address, so they blocked it. For this security issue I am facing this kind of problem

How to install Libreoffice on Ubuntu LinuxMint & Peppermint OS

All of you know that LibreOffice 3.4.0 Final has been published on 03 June. I just download this newer version (deb package) and going to install it on my Ubuntu 10.04 machine. I didn't use PPA for this session. Because LibreOffice full download size is 146 MB. So, I use 'Gwget' download manager to download 'LibO_3.3.2_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz' file. I install it on Ubuntu, LinuxMint and Peppermint operating system. It means this installing method could work on any Debian based Linux distribution wheres the environment is Gnome or LXDE. Here is the detail installment process.

First of all download latest LibreOffice from their websites download page.
For Ubuntu or and Debian based Linux distribution, select related package from dropdown menu. I choose deb package.
After completing of download you will get a file named 'LibO_3.3.2_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz' or 'LibO_3.4.0_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz'
Extract the compressed file on another folder.
You will get a folder containing two folder called 'DEBS' and 'readmes'.
Open 'DEBS' folder.
You will get an another folder named 'desktop-integration'.
Open this folder, copy 'libreoffice3.4-debian-menus_3.4-12_all.deb' file from this folder and paste it on 'DEBS' folder.
Now copy this whole 'DEBS' folder in your Home directory.
Now enter that folder using the command below in terminal. Remember that Linux commands are case sensitive.
cd DEBS
Entering in that folder run the command below in terminal.
sudo dpkg -i *
It will trigger install command and LibreOffice will start to install.

After completing install process you will find your new office productivity suite on 'Office' submenu of main menu.

This new office suite contain several office management software and they are:
LibreOffice 3.4 Base

LibreOffice 3.4 Impress
LibreOffice 3.4 Math

LibreOffice 3.4 Writer
Remember that LibreOffice is more powerful and faster then any other office management suite.
Do you like to add Libreoffice PPA and download and install from it? Then execute the commands below.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install libreoffice

Do you want to remove or uninstall Open Office from your machine? Then type the command in terminal
sudo apt-get remove --purge openoffice*.*
or use another command on terminal
sudo apt-get remove openoffice*.*
This is not necessary/ mandatory. It depends on your mind.
By the way: Libreoffice require Java runtime environment installed on machine. You can download it via 'Ubuntu Software Center' or follow install .bin file in ubuntu Linux

I installed Ubuntu Linux (10.04 LTS) on one of my friends pc. She need a printer driver installed to print daily documents, letters, bills etc. I searched through online but there is no any specific driver for my friends printer. She own Canon ip2772 printer. It is a development release, so Ubuntu have not develop any driver for it. At last I found a solution. Ubuntu installed ASUS Laptop

A hot news heating the Ubuntu Linux world. It said that "Asus will preload Ubuntu Linux on three Eee PC". I searched Google and found huge links indicating this great news. Asustek has announced that they are going to release three Eee pc (Model no. 1001PXD, 1011PX and 1015PX) with Ubuntu linux 10.10 preinstalled on 1st June 2011. It will be preloaded with flash and various multimedia codecs. Asus aslo said that "many more" Eee PC models running Ubuntu will be available later this year. It is a Good news. I am also waiting for this kind of Linux installed netbook. I wish to buy a Ubuntu installed Eee PC next year.

Today is 3rd June but there is no any news about it on Asus websites Eee PC news page. Ubuntu developer Canonical has announced it on their site.

You can read various kind of ebook formate file on desktop.

Calibre:
It is meant to be a complete e-library solution. It includes library management, format conversion, news feeds to ebook conversion as well as e-book reader sync features.

Calibre is primarily a ebook cataloging program. It manages your ebook collection for you. It is designed around the concept of the logical book, i.e. a single entry in the database that may correspond to ebooks in several formats. It also upports conversion from a dozen different ebook formats to LRF and EPUB. A graphical interface to the conversion software can be accessed easily by just clicking the "Convert E-books" button.

Calibre supported input formats are: MOBI, LIT, PRC, EPUB, ODT, HTML, CBR, CBZ, RTF, TXT, PDF and LRS.

Calibre has a modular device driver design that makes adding support for different e-reader devices easy. At the moment, it has support for the SONY PRS 500/505/700 and the iPhone (with the stanza reader software). Syncing supports updating metadata on the device from metadata in the library and the creation of collections on the device based on the tags defined in the library view. If an book has more than one format available, calibre automatically chooses the best format when uploading to the device.

Calibre can automatically fetch news from a number of websites/RSS feeds, format the news into a ebook and upload to a connected device. There is support for generating LRF/EPUB ebooks. The ebooks include the *full* versions of the articles, not just the summaries.

Calibre has also a built-in ebook viewer that can display all the major ebook formats.

First of all I like to say about 'Recordmydesktop'
It can captures audio-video data of a Linux desktop session

Say, I am trying to download a newer version of a newly published linux distribution. It has several download link for various world region. I want to download it from all the links. What will I do?

Use a simple command with 'aria2'. It is a wellknown mini application which can download a single file from several/ various location or download link. Use the command below and check it yourself.

aria2c http://server01.com/file.tar.gz http://server02.com/file.tar.gz
http://server03.com/file.tar.gz http://server04.com/file.tar.gz

First of all, you should know all the server names / links and file names. Remember that filename should be same for every command.

If you ever see this error which telling you the line below:-

"sudo: timestamp too far in the future"

Then run a simple command in 'Terminal' found on Accessories menu

sudo -k

You have to enter password to solve . It is a bug on time settings (time-stamp issue) on your machine. After running the command above change the time as your desire. This command will work on various debian based Linux Operating System. Check it out by yourself.

I just enable mobile view of my blogger blog 'netgator.blogspot.com'. You also can enable this on your blogspot blog easily. Look at the image right side of this post. This is my 'NetGator' blog's snapshot but quite different in view and arrangement. Yes, this is called mobile view. If you have a smarter mobile phone (modern mobile device powered by latest mobile operating system) then you can see my blog in this style. You can view it when you have no desktop pc/ laptop/ netbook in your hand. Say, you are visiting country side by bus or foot or hiking a mountain. I gained a lot of knowledge on E-17, Scribus and LXDE from this colorful online free pdf linux magazine. Their 'Screen-shot Gallery' is very attractive section I like. They also publish 'Editorial' and 'Ladies on PCLinuxOS' every month.

Have not download Ubuntu 11.04

I have not download Ubuntu 11.04, because I have not feel any attraction to this newer release. The main reason is Unity desktop.

From years I have download some netbook edition linux releases and test them on virtual machine and live mode. None of them give me any pleasure of using Gnome. Yes, I don't owe any Netbook computer. But I did not feel problem to understand Unity. I download and tried various netbook based linux distributions like 'Moblin', 'EasyPeasy', 'Meego', 'Ubuntu netbook remix', 'Jolycloud' etc. None of them satisfy me in any way. Though they all are like Unity2d but the main reason is the desktop usability. I like to keep my desktop clean. I always add less shortcut on my desktop. This is my common habit since windows 95. And the boring thing is on Unity desktop or populer netbook OS desktops are full of icon (application link shortcut) on desktop area. Sometimes it is hard for me to find any current downloaded pdf file which is saved on desktop. Even on some OS I can not access desktop by mouse. I can't touch any file which is saved recently on desktop. On Unity a very disturbing thing is left side pane. This is quite extra width then Gnome bottom (or top) panel. So it takes more space. I don't understand why Ubuntu developers don't understand this kind of simple thing. If they like to add regular using application links in-front of hand then they could use drawer like thing. It should have a hide button, so I can use more space when drawing a picture and I need larger area.

There are another main reason not to download or taste Ubuntu 11.04. I read many forum/ blog post/ mailing lists mail that Unity is quite modern hardware hungry. I have not much ability to buy a newer hardware.

I know Ubuntu developers will not understand money weakness of me or me like users. Because their target is not to make a lighter linux. There are many other option for lighter hardware user. They should use Light Linux not Ubuntu main distribution/ addition. They can use Lubuntu or Peppermint or AntiX or any LXDE based operating system.

I think I should collect some name of literary theory and analysis book. I read a famous forum post about this topic. I found a great list of literary critic books written by great authors. This is not a list of modern day literary theory or writing or analysis or criticism. I had not heard about these great books. Is it a classic book list? I don't know. After reading the full page, sadly I found that I have not read any of the books below. Actually my English reading experience is very poor. I did not read much English or another European language books. I wish if I get any chance to collect hardcopy or softcopy (Free download) of any of the books, I can learn a new thing and gather some further knowledge. By the way, as like modern technology I also love literature. I believe reading is not my hobby, reading is a part of my life.

Today I am going to publish some funny and essential handful feature of Linux which are not available on Windows OS yet. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 to describe the functions and showing the screen-shots.

Stretching a Desktop Icon:
You can stretch a desktop icon as your desired size. It can bring back to normal size only with a one click.

Tab on File browser:
Tabbed browsing introduced by Firefox (I guess, not sure). This feature so much helpful that every browser make it a trend on their newer release. Even Internet Explorer had to add tab feature. Tab is so helpful that everybody who use it can understand. Nautilus File browser has this great feature. If you use 'Nautilus File Browser' to search for files then tabbed windows will help you more to locate and short files.

Extra Pan on File browser.
Extra everything (good ones) bring extra benefit. There is an extra window on 'Nautilus File Browser'. The habit of opening another window again an again is dead. Not you do not need to close any opened wind to search another folder or file. Press F3 and get an extra pan on current window. You can browse them using single left tree (location bar).

Drawer:
What a great idea of Linux developers. I am really impressed with this funny essential tool. You can add may drawer on any panel (top or bottom) and place any link from anywhere. You can even add the whole Ubuntu menu on a single ribbon-like drawer. Color it, resize it, decorate it in your own way and style.

Conky:
Oh! What a special thing windows users are missing! They can't believe and understand it. Conky is a powerful informative desktop attached tool to monitor various system information. I found a little info at 'Synaptic package manager'-

One More Panels:
I have two panels on Gnome desktop (I can add another panel on LXDE desktop, have not check KDE and XFCE). Do you know I can add two more panels on my right and left side? More panels mean more links infront of me. I loved “Windows quick launch bar”. But it has very small place to add one click links. I had no option to add more one click links on desktop area. But linux give me freedom to add more and more one click links on desktop.

Hiding Panels:
Hiding a panel can give me more space to perform a task. You can enable 'Hiding button' from every panels 'Properties Menu'. You can hid a full panel on right side or left side or top side or bottom side. Attractive but valuable function.

Enabling a 'Hide' button on panel is very easy. Right click on any place of a panel. 'Panel Properties' will open. Select (or tick) on 'Show Hide buttons'. You don't need to 'Apply' or click 'OK', Just close 'Panel Properties' effect will start instantly.

The Applets:
Applets are another lovely, tiny, powerful tools based on various task. You can done many kinds of job with this handy applets.

The Workspace
Normally an windows user have only one desktop by default. But every linux distribution has a great feature named “The Workspace”. It give you extra desktop/ workspace to do job. You can add up to 20 workspace in your Linux system.

Switching workspace is the ESSENTIAL part of effective work-flow but Windows officials did not think it.

Bundled Software, drivers and the huge collection:
Most of the Linux distribution comes with many essential daily needs software. Any (most of) newly installed Linux distribution will install the operating system itself with 'Office package'. You do not need to buy it or install any 'Office package' later. No need to require any further hardware driver. If you connect 'Linux installed harddisk' on another motherboard, then it won't disturb you offering any hardware installation. Instant hardware detecting is a simple job in Linux.

And nothing to say about the quantity of offered available program via synaptic package manager. In this moment at least 32744 items are available on “Ubuntu Software Center”. All are licensed copy. But do not thirsty for a single dollar.

Finally I must say about the helpful community of every Linux distribution. Every Linux variants has their own online forum. You can call it official supporting system. Because officially employed/ supported moderators answer problem topic. They love to help people and work hard to support them in any trouble. Anybody from any country of this world can submit a problem and get answer from these forum. All great, fixing supports are published for free to use and share. This is Linux philosophy. Helping other mean helping human kind.

None of the discussed Linux features require any more download. You can get this features on many popular Linux distribution by default. No need to install or update to get these performs on newly installed Linux system.

Graphical Disk Partition:
Many of us thought that “Partitioning in Linux is very hard, I can't understand it. It is a real difficult configuration on Linux.” But, I will say, wait before talk much. Linux partitioning system is a graphical thing. Not like a dos like (terminal like) programme. You do not need to remember anything, Change harddisk's value or task viewing on own eye. Use mouse to cut your harddisk. By the way, I think partitioning in Linux is very easy. Because you can do this critical job using graphical interface. Do not need to do on DOS like environment. Do everything with mouse click. Do not need to remember any command or guess anything. I will discuss partitioning in Linux method on a future post.

Various Desktop Environment
Only Linux has various kind of Desktop Environment to work through. No one on Windows community can think about the beauty and usability of KDE, GNOME, LXDE, XFCE or anything else. Windows has only one environment and is not possible to change it. Actually Linux has the philosophical understand of changing ability or choice of a desktop environment. Even you can change file manager if you not feel familiar on current one.

I can't end this post. Because a conclusion can not stop completing this kind of list. Linux has many many feature which are still in dream on the other operating system's community. I can say only one word- Use it and Learn it.

Why do I test newly published Operating system?

I don't know if you ask it anytime or not. But I like to ask it. So I search and surf through internet and make a look on newly released operating system. Most of the time I got newly information about Linux distribution. Updated Linux distributions release regularly on the whole year. Newly optimized, redesigned, recoded, rewrite or edited, discovered, furnished, flavored Linux distributions published simultaneously. Sometimes it is got difficult for me to stay updated about new operating system. You know I like cooking, so, I know the value of testing. Testing a new operating system is really exiting and intellectual activity. I like to think that it is my hobby. I am not programmer, not a coder, nor a hacker. Even I am poor in English language. But, I like to know this intellectual performance made by man. I know I am not a producer, I am just a user only.

I think supporting on Open Source activity is a moral issue. Their philosophy like to help people. Not want to earn money. This is very good opinion. I think I should support it. So, I start to use Linux. Linux bring me freedom on customizing and gain usability. I got many valuable applications and tools on absolutely free of cost. This is really imaging. Hard to believe. But it is true. I fall in love to Linux (Open source OS and Applications). I want to know more and more about new Linux. I feel thirst to drink new Linux news. So, I go/ visit here and there, from this Linux blog/ website to another Linux/ open source website/ blog. Look for new news, release, apps. I like to feel my head with Linux and more Linux.

So, I always like to download newly published Linux distribution and run it on Virtual Machine. Try to observe it, ride it, discover it.

Windows button left to right on Ubuntu

Windows buttons are now on left side since Ubuntu 10.04. Some people do not like it. They have habit to click on close, minimize, maximize buttons on top right side of a opened window. But Ubuntu developers think in a different thing. They are going to add various item on top right side of a opened window. So they change position of that buttons to left side. Many of the computer user (Windows operating system user) feel easy to see them on top right side.

But, my thinking is different. I feel that it is a habitual thing. It took some days to grow a newer habit. Now I feel easy to the minimize, maximize, restore, close buttons on left side. I am facing an another type of problem. When I change the theme then window buttons position got changed and go to right side. I want to bring back them on left side.

Todays post is on this issue. Now we will learn how to change positon of windows buttons (close, minimize, maximize, restore) from right to left or left to right.

Here is the solution:
Press Alt+F2. A 'Run Application' dialogue box will open.

Type 'gconf-editor' on text area, Press Run.

After opening the 'Configuration Editor', directly go to 'apps > metacity > general'
Look at right side text/ configuration area.
Point to 'button_layout'
Double click on that text (button_layout). An 'Edit Key' dialogue will open.

Change position of the buttons on 'Value' area and press OK. Before click OK, you can add a 'Menu' button on the windows area (If it is not exist in newer theme).

You've done. View effect on any opened window's title bar. 'Close, Minimize, Maximize' buttons has changed their position (as you wrote).

Gconf frontend 'gTweakUi' to show 'My computer' 'Trash' Icon on Ubuntu desktop

Monthe ago I have published a post named Show My computer Recycle Bin in desktop on Ubuntu This is a very easy method. But if you don't want to work on the heart of Ubuntu or want to use a frontend of Gconf then you can install this tiny tool from synaptic. It can work various job on Ubuntu machine.

What can 'gTweakui' do:

It can change behavior and appearance of 'Menus'.
Can show 'My computer' icon, 'Trash' icon, 'My Home' icon on desktop.
Can change names of desktop launcher.
Can change configuration on 'Session Properties'. It can enable 'Save session automatically', 'Show logout menu', 'Show splash screen on login'

How to install?
Go to Synaptic Package Manager and search for 'gtweakui' keyword. You will get a result which says:

Blinking on bottom window list area on Peppermint One 01042011

Mozila Firefox always blinking in bottom window list area. I don't know why it is blinking. I thought Firefox is not in-front of other window. I select some text on a website, scrolling dragging by mouse. That little space for Firefox at bottom window list area is still blinking. (Blinking= goes bright and dark continuously.) I am going to post it in PeppermintOS forum very soon.

Can't copy paste to usb pendrive on peppermint one 010411

The latest version of Peppermint One OS released 4th january 2011. I installed it in two computer. I like to recommend it on more computer. I recommend it to many place like my friend, colleague, shop etc. I am going to install it to three more computer. But before that, I am facing a problem on both computer. I can't copy anything to my regular usb pendrive. I think it is permission peoblem. I tried it in sudo mode, result is same. Can't copy paste anything to that usb device. Is this normal?

After searching through peppermint os forum I found a topic titled error copying files [SOLVED]. That thread said that it is PCManFM issue. So, you should try other 'File Manager' to manage files and folder.Forum members suggested to use emelFM and dolphin. I checked wikipedia and read the page 'File Manager'. But I have not taste any of them yet.

Recent situations on middle east teach us that revolution is not dead yet. One of a big leader said me that NGO's and neo politics has been succeed to protect men's anger. But new era said us that revolution is still alive. Many many men are fighting, supporting, creating revolution to change their society. Struggling for a better life pushing them in road. Women are shouting outside of their home at night, children are uprising their hand at midnight. They are not sleeping. They have no sleep on their eyes. They are waiting for a golden morning.

I welcome peoples of Egypt, Tunisia, Libya to a better world in this new 20th scientific century. I salute, support your protest against dictatorship. But, friend you all are late. Let comer. Communism said and done everything before you. You have not invent anything. I just ask you one question. Have you ever hard anything about 'KARL MARX", or know anything about 'Russian Revolution (1917)'. I must said that "It is islam which is original culprit, causing bad in your life and old Arab culture. It will disturb your life in future if you not aware and left it now." I download Peppermint One 010411 last month. I install it in my other harddisk and testing various thing. Really faster. After several startup (I can't remember) I found that the bottom panel (menu bar) has gone. I don't know how did it deleted from there. I am sure I did not destroyed it.

I change background wallpaper, add an another panel at top, add some link/ applet, install some application. Suddenly I found that the bottom panel/ menu bar has vanished. After searching at preference, I took help of Google and found a topic at Peppermint OS Forum. At that forum a user asked that Where did the menu bar go? (Noob) (MIA). I learned that I need to reconfigure dpkg.

Codes are written below according to the Peppermint Forum.

alternatively the (hidden) ./config skeleton folder to restore is held at /etc/skel; copy its contents to ~./config folder

I can not access my blog for more then 2 week. I found that http://netgator.blogspot.com does not open. I tried on various operating system and various browser, but all are failed. At last I use different 'internet service provide (ISP)'. I understand that it causes by my older isp. My blog can be easily viewable on that other internet connection. But my regular broadband internet connection has some problem with blogger.com.

I tried to open my blog everyday, but failed. All other blogs and websites are open normaly. Only blogger/ blogspot blog failed to load. Today I found that blogger developer has fixed this issue. So, I am able to see my blog and publishing this thankful post.

New spin of 'Peppermint one' operating system has been released some days ago. [Newslink]. I missed the news. It published on 04 January 2011. last weak I start to download new Peppermint one. Today it completed. I run 'Peppermint-One-01042011.iso' with the help of Virtual Box. Test different.
At the news post on Peppermint os homesite they said that only some change has been implied in this new respin. I am just pasting some text from the announcement post.

The default kernel has been updated to 2.6.35 in order to stay more current regarding hardware support and to match the kernel in Peppermint Ice.
The Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) has been completely removed from this edition in order to help with performance and to increase application modularity.
The default screenshot application has been replaced with PyShot, a simple Python/GTK application contributed by our longtime friend and supporter, Ikey Doherty.
Some low level utilities have been updated such as the GNU Coreutils to version 8.8, the Samba file sharing framework to 3.5.6, and others.
Some user level applications have also received updates such as the PCManFM file manager to 0.9.8, LXTerminal to 0.1.9, and Firefox to 4.0b8

But I think they forget to mention a great change found on this new release. They said it only in half sentence at last number. This is about PCManFM file manager. Now PCManFM desktop icons are movable. So you can rearrange desktop icons just dragging it anywhere. Position of icons can be saved and restored. Day by day LXDE are becoming more popular for its various kind of feature. This is the newest one. I believe users like me feel more exciting with this new ability of pcmanfm.

After downloading and setting up in VirtualBox I found the screenshots published below one by one.

This Peppermint operating system uses Mint Install as it's main software source. So installing any program is very easy and can be done various task at the same time. At least 30436 packages are waiting to download.

Synaptic package manager updated to its latest version. So searching any package become more easy.

Everything looks fine and satisfactory. And you know I must say for Peppermint os because I love it. But there are a problem I fond after running it for some minutes in VM. I found that title bars goes lost; look at the synaptic's image above. There are no titile bar at the top of synaptic's interface. Bottom main menu and panel also goes lost / disappeared, so can't run terminal and apply the commands found 'Title bar lost in Ubuntu". I don't know why this happening. Is it a kind of bug or my system's hidden problem.

You are free to unplug it now, a log of the operation will be saved in your homedir if you close the program.

So I try to open it in firefox browser. (I know, visiting a hacked site is dangerous for computer. But, friends, I don't use windows operating system, I use ubuntu linux, so I have not fear anything.) I have not see any change on the search giant site. I see it normal.

I ping google.com.bd and found that everything is normal (Google ip address is 74.125.230.83). I read some Bangla site and found that some of them tried to visit google without www and found a hacked site. I tried without www before google.com.bd and did not found any problem.

iBus keyboards for Ubuntu 10.10 netbook

If you are a user of Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) netbook edition, then you may notice that there is no much keyboard installed default for iBus input method system. This is really annoying for a nonenglish user.

I uploaded some dependencies for iBus. I downloaded the files below from 'http://packages.ubuntu.com/' and compress them in a single zip file. Now it is only 2.5 MB. Easy to download on a slower internet connection.

Download the zip file from the link below. I wish it will help you to write nonenglish language in Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) netbook edition.

You can install them by clicking one by one. Or, run sudo dpkg -i *.deb command in the containing folder.

Install 'Ubuntu restricted extras' easily [Solved]

Sometimes we can not install 'Ubuntu restricted extras' easily. I am writing this post only for them. You can name this post as "How to install 'Ubuntu restricted extras' easily" or "How to fix broken ubuntu restricted extras package list". This post will help you if you try to install 'Microsoft True Type core fonts' on your ubuntu machine. I found that 'ttf-mscorefonts-installer' sometime cause a broken link problem. 'Microsoft TrueType core fonts' are issue of copyright, but they are platform compatible and you can still install them from third parties.

First of all enable 'multiverse repository'. To do it go to System > Administration > Software Sources. Now click on the leftside radio button of "Software restrictecd by copyright or legal issue ( multiverse)".

Now click on 'Close', click 'Reload' on message box. Reloading or downloading package information will be done within seconds.

Now open terminal (Applications → Accessories → Terminal) and run the command below:

sudo dpkg –configure -a

Type password and press 'Enter'
Run the command below on the same opend terminal. It will justify and upgrad any missing or pending package.

sudo apt-get -f install

wait to complete the process. Now type/ run the commands below one be one. Always wait to complete one command.

sudo apt-get –fix-missing install

sudo apt-get clean

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

At last run the final command in the same opened terminal. This is the main command which will instal 'Ubuntu restricted extras' on Ubuntu system.

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Wait until finishing the downloading. Now Restart your machine. You will find that "ubuntu restricted extras" has been installed succesfully.

Picasa officials said that this will help improve your experience in two ways. Firstly, friends can see and recognize whom they are interacting with and secondly if you use multiple google products, it will be easier because this feature enable updating profiles in one place.

'Software index is broken' on Ubuntu [Solved]

Recently, I am going to install a software from 'Ubuntu Software Center'. But, due to slow internet connection, download has not completed and package list has been broken. What a bad luck of me! I tried to download that software again from 'synaptic package manager' but a message appear and said:

Software index is broken on Ubuntu

Software index is broken
This is a major failure of your software management system. Please check for broken packages with synaptic, check the file permissions and correctness of the file '/etc/apt/sources.list' and reload the software information with: 'sudo apt-get update' and 'sudo apt-get install -f'.

Software index is broken, application download failed and updates package-list can not open

I run sudo apt-get update at terminal. When it tries to read package lists an error occurred. Look at the last lines at the image above. Several error message showing there.

W: Envountered status field in a non-version description
E: Problem parsing dependency Replaces
E: Error occurred while processing gconf2-common (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with Mergelist /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

I fall in deep-thought. So, I shutdown computer and restart it. I run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install -f at terminal again. My ubuntu system fix-up its broken package list automatically.

Now I can install my preferred software from software center again. I am very happy to get all thing normal.

Gmail has no text area to write mail

Just discovered that Gmail has no any text area to write email. Is it caused by slow internet connection? Is it Gmail's server or any technical error? I am still searching internet to find some solution or at least any suggestion.

Mobile view of blogspot blog enabled

Now, you can view your blogger.com blog on any smartphone mobile device. You can view and visit blogspot blog from any smartphone viewing default web layout. But mobile template is fully different then original view. Blogger or any original web template has a common problem. When anybody trying to read a blogspot blog from mobile phone s/he might feel some disturb, when s/he has to always scroll through the screen. Mobile template is free from this kind of hassle.

How to enable mobile view on blogger.com blog? This is very easy. Just follow the suggestions below:

Login 'blogger.com' dashboard with corresponding user id and password.
Directly go to 'Settings> Email & Mobile'

Select "Yes, On mobile devices, show the mobile version of my template." on 'Show mobile template' area of "Mobile Template" section. Click on 'MOBILE PREVIEW' to check your blog's mobile view.

If you use default new 'Designer' templates then you will get 6 more template to suit your blog. If you use customize blogspot template then you might get only one mobile view template. I publish my 'NetGator' blogs mobile view screenshot on this post.

I wish this new mobile view feature will bring your blog's visitor (who are visiting from mobile phone) to a new portable blogger horizon.

Keep in mind that this feature is still in 'Beta' version'. So, active this feature on your own risk. Things might happen different. Then you can not blame anybody. Blogger.com or I wont take any responsibility or your valuable loss.

Facebook image uploader script on Nautilus

A new image uploader for facebook has been published. It is for Ubuntu only. You can upload single or multiple image easily via natilus (file browser) to your facebook wall or on existing album or create a new album.

How to use this 'Nautilus Facebook Image Uploader' application?

First of all download a archive file from gtk-apps.org
Extract that compressed file.
Ope the folder
Double click on the install.sh file
Choose 'Run' when prompt.

Facebook image uploader script has been installed. Now if you right click any image/ photo on your hard disk, a menu containing 'Scripts' will open. Go through 'Scripts' submenu and choose 'Upload to Facebook'

You will have to 'Authorize' it on first run. A new tab will open and redirect to Facebook ( you should log in Facebook if you're not logged in).
Now click the 'Allow' button. Finally, you have to select where to upload the images (on album or wall) and click 'Upload". Your selected photos will now be uploaded to Facebook.

If you are a Firefox user, 'Authorisation' process may not work. Use other browser at first use or get a Firefox patch from here.

* Tested on a Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 Desktop Edition Fresh Install by script author.

'ibus input method system' missing in antiX

You know I am exploring antiX Linux for some weeks. Today I found that their is no any ibus input method tool in antiX synaptic package manager. What a strange thing it is!

Look at the image above. It is taken in Ubuntu 10.10. We can install 'ibus input method system' from here any time in a simple and easy way. But what about antiX?

Main 'ibus input method system' tool is not included in antiX repository by default? WHY? I can't guess or think the reason. Do they (antiX developers) don't want us to use antiX in our own language?

I have not found any foreign language input method system on any word processor on antiX (I took this screenshot using my favourite text editor 'Leafpad'. I also searched for 'SCIM'. But 'SCIM' is not included into antiX repository by default.

The panel encountered a problem while loading Gnome desktop applet

Last time while I come to desktop after starting my Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) machine, a message appear infront-of me. A dialogue box say:

The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFHD:GNOME_NotificationAreaApplet".

Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

I click on 'Don't Delete'. I restart my computer and everything goes fine. No any warning message shows it's ugly face anymore. I searched google if there are anybody facing this kind of problem. I found many result. I understand that this problem occurs when applets start on panels. I add 20 applet on top panel. It is a heavy panel to load quickly. Don't blame me for this practice. I am a Ubuntu guy man. And I leave windows for greed of this kind of customisation ability. But what about the problem?

I found that when you see this kind of crash report, please restart of simply logout and login again. Wish to solve the problem.

You can try some more way to solve it.

Create a new user and use this account.
Reinstall gnome-applets and gnome-applets-data from synaptic package manager.
Logout and login again
Update/upgrade system. (System should fully patched and updated)

I have just visit blog.twitter.com and found that it is using blogger.com hosting blog. I am gettng surprise to see that they have not put any link to blogger.com. I guess if they use wordpress blog then they must use a phrase 'Proudly powered by wordpress'.

My question is why twitter authority have not mention any acknowledgement to blogger. They should write a single line like me. I wrote a single line at the bottom of my blog "Powered by Blogger." This is a common courtesy to using any free service online, but twitter failed to show it.

This kind of islamic attack to woman is very general in many islamic country in this green world. I don't know when will muslims understand that their faith and behaviour is not suitable for a civilised world.

Both CPU running almost 100% on Ubuntu

My computer has a duel core processor. I am using Ubuntu 10.10. I have a 1 GB RAM. I allocate 2 GB space for swap partition (actually 1 GB is sufficient, but I select 2GB for testing, and I am continuing with this huge space). Normally both of my CPU uses very low process. But for some days (I guess after updating 200 line kernel it occur) I am facing an uncommon problem. I found on system monitor applet and conky that, both of my CPU running about 100%. I am not sure why this happening, but feeling afraid.

I did not run any application when took the pictures below except Firefox:

Look at the image above. CPU 1 working 90.7 % and CPU 2 running 88.1%

Look at the image above closely (click to enlarge). In this list of running processes three unnamed application running at first. Ther are not like to show them, so scrollbar goes down after them automatically.

Conky also showing quite same result. CPU1 taking 89% of whole process and CPU2 also taking 89 % of system process.

When I going to shutdown my system, then this dialogue box appear. It is telling that "An Unknown program is still running". So, my ubuntu machine stop shutting down. I have to press "Shut Down Anyway" button.

I don't know why this happen to my Ubuntu 10.10 system. I upgraded 200 lines of kernel patch upgrade with a script. Is my problem casing by it? I applied recent update from ubuntu upgrade. I upgrade Ubuntu systems kernel to 2.6.35.23-generic. But problem exist as same.

I have just published a post "10 GnoMenu Themes and A Button". After publish I thought I should check if there are any more beautiful GnoMenu themes left in Google search which I missed. I searched with keyword 'gnomenu theme' and got the results on

Mozilla Firefox and
Google Chromium.

That post get first page on Google Search Result within second. What a surprise!! If you search with keyword 'gnomenu themes', you will get same result. I am there on first page too.

How to install GnoMenu theme?
I wrote the full process at this post "Alternative menu for Ubuntu GnoMenu". I am telling here in short.

Most of these GnoMenu theme comes in a .tar.gz file. Click on 'install' button on GnoMenu options Themes tab, browse to that .tar.gz file and click OK.

If you get any theme comes in a zip archive, then extract it. You should get a .tar.gz archive.

I don't know whether these are best or better GnoMenu theme or not. If you feel these themes quite nice, useful or feature rich then other, then my choice will get a success.

How to install this theme for GnoMenu? Here is the process one by one:-

Download 7like theme for GnoMenu from here.

Extract the 7Like folder somewhere else. Copy 'Menu' Folder to
/usr/share/gnomenu/Themes/Menu
And copy the 7Like buttons to
/usr/share/gnomenu/Themes/Button

You have done. Now change theme as describe in this post "GnoMenu: Alternative to default Ubuntu mainmenu". ENJOY!!

Restore default panels on ubuntu

I publish a post describing suggestions if Taskbar missing in ubuntu 10.04. You should run some commands at terminal to get back default Ubuntu panels as per that post.

Today I am giving you a simple tool to restore default Ubuntu desktop panels.

Download a little script file named Panel Restore. Run it. A tiny dialogue box will open. It gives three options:

Save Panel Settings
Restore Panel Settings, and
Restore Default Panel Settings

Select 'Restore Default Panel Settings' and click OK. Ubuntu panels will restore instantly.

Download Panel Restore script. File size is only 787 bytes.

antix vs swiftlinux comparison

Swift Linux is an another floavour of antiX os. I found it on antiX forum. I feel so much curious that I started to download it. After several days I am able to complete it. Just after download I start "Virtual Box OSE" and run "swiftlinux".

I am so frustrated that can't talk for some minutes. Swiftlinux is antiX. Yes, There is nothing difference between antiX and Swiftlinux. Both are same on my view. I am not a geek. So can't tell any tech base difference. But after start everybody who know 'antiX' will be worry about 'Swiftlinux'. I don't want to write any review for 'Swiftlinux', Because, actually it is antix, wrap with and decorate with other theme. I believe it has no future.

I run both of them on 'Virtual Machine' and took those screenshot. Look at the image below. Left side is default 'antiX' os and right side is 'Swiftlinux'. I think you are viewing huge difference between both of them.
I expand 'Accessories' sub menu from 'Application' main menu. If you can't see clearly click on the images. You click will open larger image.

You should not mention changed theme as a difference. "AntiX' use 'IceGilDust' and 'Swiftlinux' using 'IceClearlooks' themes.
Are you telling about those desktop icons showing on swiftlinux? Friend, icons are showing on swiftlinux, because rox filer is selected here as default window manager. It automatically run first at startup. AntiX also has this included on main menu. You can use 'rox' filer as default wm.

My suggestion is not to download 'Swiftlinux'. If you have antiX downloaded then it will give you the original test of 'swiftlinux'. 'What makes Swift Linux so great?'-- I don't found any unique reason which is only perfect for 'swiftlinux'. You may read that page and understand yourself.

Google Chrome OS Netbook released

It seems that Google has published its own chrome os netbooks on market. The netbooks are atom based so consume less battery, run longer then normal laptop. It comes with Chrome OS installed. Anybody can curious that how it look like and what it will do. I have never use or test chrome os. I have downloaded a non officeal version, tried to test but failed. I know a little reading from internet. I just read on a website:
Mr. Upson said in an interview with the Financial Post earlier this year.

"By doing this, we can make the computer much simpler to use.... We want to make it so that the user never has to install software, never has to manage software, or update software or worry about security. By rethinking the operating system from the ground up, we can solve these problems."
I don't like this idea. Though I like to test Google Chrome OS on vm.

I am not sure, whether google bring their little toy on public or not. I have just read this two news and writing this post.

Enable Ubuntu control center

Ubuntu control center is added by default. But you can not find any link to it. So, you should enable it by yourself. Don't worry. It is waiting just behind some clicks.

Click on System at top bar
Now click on 'Preferences'
Click on 'Main Menu'
At left tree go directly to 'System' menu.
Here you will see uncheck box just left of 'Control Center'. Click to tick mark it.
Control Centre will be enable instantly.
You will get 'Control Centre' link at 'System' menu.

Why you should enable it? I will not tell you. Enable it and explore yourself.

After publishing secret US cables, wikileaks got threat from affected country. Wikileaks.com founder tweet that his domain got ddos attack which takes more then 10 GB per second. Today BBC informed us that this famous domain had been killed. What a brutality it is?
There are wikileaks.info to get many mirror address. We can visit Twitter page to get latest news about wikileaks.

On my earlier post "Change time format on antiX os (Found trix)" I told you that if I can customize time format on antiX m8.5, I will inform you. This is the good news for you. Yes, at last I am able to change time format on my antiX operating system.

According to earlier post I clicked 'icewm preferences' at 'Control Center'. I search line number 514. But in my system's 'icewm preferences' there is only 130 line I found. I get 'time format' option at line 62. I changed the format "%H%M" to "%r". It worked. Result is shown below.

You may know that I am trying to learn antiX os. It is really funny to run this light, user friendly, feature rich operating system. I am quite surprise to see the huge collection of various kind of software. From geeky tools to necessary everyday application all are included by default.

As a new user I am facing some problem when I try to customise it. I wrote them on my another post "antiX OS configuration and using". I have notice another failure of me.

I tried to change time format. I like 'Second' sign on a clock. So, I tried to add it as per describe on FAQ page (Menu> Help>>>).

I have tried to change 'timeformat'. A digital clock is showing on right side of bottom panel. I have searched through the FAQ page. It seems that I have found a solution. It described on faq page.
Change to a 12- hr clock: click on Search on the menu bar, and enter 'timeformat'
I looked on menu and submenus several times. can not found any 'Search' button/ link on Main Menu and Sub Menu. I got 'Run' and tried to run that command on it. But it don't work.
I also found "Search for Files or Folders" and "Searchmonkey" at 'Accessories' submenu (Get more menu entry snapshots from antiX linux operating system snapshot gallery). But they didn't found 'timeformat' for me.
I Googled about it and found a solution on antiX forum. In the thread Change time format in antiX IceWM, forum user OU812 give advise to change prefference of icewm.
S/he sugget to go Control Center > edit icewm settings > preferences

Now I feel that English is really very hard language. It is so hard that most of the english speaker also made many wrong in their regular conversation. I am not much fan of any foreign language. I am not much briliant to learn any new language. But I want to learn english to read its literature. Their are many famous writers in english. I want to read them all. But alas. I feel it hard to understand. I feel very hard to repeat it.

Create customise menu entry on antiX OS

Today we will add a menu entry (Program shortcut) on antiX main menu. It is icewm, so many thing are different then KDE or GNome. This kind of minimal environment require some coding experience to do customise. But antiX has a adding menu enty way. It don't need and console based command typing skill. It is GUI (Graphical user interface). So, you can add a program shortcut using some graphical dialogue box.

I took my favorite simple text editor 'Leafpad' as a example. I named this new shortcut 'm-leafpad' (My leafpad).

* Here is the process to add a shortcut link in mainmenu of antiX linux operating system.

Directly go to antiX menu >Tools > System >Add .desktop Files
Look at the image below. It describe itself.

Click on the "Add .desktop Files" textlink to start.

A new window will appear. You should put some related information here.

Write your applications shortcut name at Menu-name
Point an icon file's link here at Menu icon.
What is your Menu Category mention here. Where do you want to place this link, white here.
'Command to execute' is the main issue of a shortcut link. Write application's executive file's name here.
If you want to run preferred application in 'terminal' then select 'yes' in the 'Launch in terminal' . Normally we should select 'no'.
Now press 'OK'.
You have done.

A message will appear.

Menu entry created

This message box says:

Your .desktop file has been saved as /usr/share/applications/filename.desktop

You should get the newly created shortcut on application folder. Look at the image below.

Now you should update menu from ANTIX menu >Desktop >IceWM> Update Menu (Auto)

Finally my customised application shortcut link has been created succesfully. I found it on my proffered submenu.

I am not expert on antiX OS. I just discover this process. I found that sometimes this method does not work. It happened if you select wrong category on second step.

GnoMenu: Alternative to default Ubuntu mainmenu

This post is for those who came to Ubuntu from Windows environment. An ex windows user firstly search for a menubar at bottom left corner. They can not find andy 'Start' like button their in Ubuntu. If a new Ubuntu user failed to get 'Start' button, s/he caught by frustration and start to tell that 'ubuntu is hard to understand', 'it is not better' etc. Here is a solution for that kind of computer user.

GnoMenu: alternative mainmenu on Ubuntu

If a new linux user start with Linux mint of Peppermint or Puppy linux, s/he may not fall in this kind of problem. If s/he come to Ubuntu first then this kind of problem rise. Here is a bottom-left button like menu for ubuntu linux. Setting up/ installation of this 'Gno-menu' is very easy. Lets try..... and explore...

First of all, download a GnoMenu tarball file from this link. or add ppa link (ppa:gnomenu-team/ppa ) in your system. We will install it in our system now.

Now extract or unzip 'gnomenu-2.9.tar.gz' file at desktop. Now run the command below at 'Terminal'

cd Desktop/gnomenu

Now, you will enter at that extracted 'gnomenu' folder. Now, again run the command below at terminal.

sudo make install

enter root password and click on 'Enter'. You have done. GnoMenu installed succesfully on your Ubuntu system.

How to Add it in bottom panel.

Right click on bottom panel. Click to 'Add to Panel'. Select 'GnoMenu' and click on 'Add'. Now move it on the very left corner of bottom panel.

Customising of this lovely and attractive menu is very easy. Right click on the left corner button and click on 'Properties'. An window will appear instantly. Look at the images below. Chaning theme and icons are just 2 or 3 click away.

After selecting a new theme or icon click on 'OK', restart GnoMenu. It will not waste your valuable time for the name of restarting the whole system.

10 ppa links for Ubuntu Linux

You may know about PPA. PPA or Personal Package Archive is such kind of archive for ubuntu which is actually some updated 3rd party application hosted by developer. If you add this 3rd party repository ppa then you will always get latest and updated version. If you add this ppa in systems repository list then upgrading to newer version will be very easy. You can install those special application from here which might not supported by Ubuntu itself. You may know that Ubuntu do not release update (Newer version update) for any software accept security. But we have to use new version for some special feature. Newer version fix bugs, add new feature, improve performance or can be change on verious section. So, why don't we upgrade? But you can not do it via Ubuntu software center. You must have to add ppa. This is the necessity of ppa.
Today I am sharing some essential ppa list with you all. You can add or upgrade your preferred packages with these links.

1. Linux Freedom Lucid PPA:
It is a fantastic ppa. Main speciality of this ppa is it deliver some popular and famous packages like: VLC, Gimp, JDownloader, Pidgin, Nautilaus, Cafaine, File zilla etc. And they keep only stable version in their pipeline. Here you will get upto 100 packages. To add this ppa write the command below in terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/linuxfreedomlucid
sudo apt-get update

2. Video Driver PPA
You will get latest stable version video driver for your computer systems video card. You will get updated version of Nvidia restricted driver. To add this ppa write the command below in terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates

3. Theme PPA
If you are looking for some nice and attractive theme for your Ubuntu system then this ppa will make you smile. You will get many eyecaching, lovely desktop and icon theme and wallpaper collection here.
To add this ppa write the command below in terminal:

sudo apt-get update

4. Ubuntuzilla PPA
You may use Ubuntuzilla to installl updated Mozila Firefox, Mozila Thunderbird and Seamonkey web browser. I know this ubuntuzilla script help many of you. Now add this mozila software installer's ppa in your system and stay up-to-date automatically. Now you will get instant access to the latest linux build of this famous and popular web application.

To add this ppa write the command below in terminal:

6. Midibuntu Ripo
Ubuntu can not include some propitory codec by default for some copyright restriction. So Ubuntu can not play proritory format media file on it's first boot. I know, you install it after first boot. Now ,if you add midibuntu ripo ppa in your system then many kind of codec will be install in your system easily.
To add this ppa write the command below in terminal:

sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update

7. Google ripo
To get latest various Google software (Like: Google desktop, Picasa etc.) just add this Google ripo.
To add this ppa write the command below in terminal:

wget https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub -O- | sudo apt-key add - &&
echo "deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google.list &&
sudo apt-get update

8. Opera Ripo PPA.
I personaly do not like Opera browser for its slowest performance. I heard about it super turbo speed. Unfortunately it do not work for my. But if you are a satisfied user of Opera browser then add this ppa. Adding this ppa you will get latest version of famous opera browser instantly.

Go to System> Administration > Software Sources and click on 'Other Software' tab. Click on 'Add' on lower space and type the line below:

deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stable non-free

Now click on 'Add Source' button to add it.
Now run this command of terminal

wget -O - http://deb.opera.com/archive.key | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update

Now you can able to install opera implimenting the command below.

sudo apt-get install opera

9. webupd8 PPA.
You will get various kind of essential and powerful applications from 'Webupd8' ripo ppa.
To add this ppa on your system just type the command below in terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update

10. Super OS Ripo PPA
You may like 'Super OS' Ripo. It has some very essential unique application.

At first you must download this deb file from here . Use 'Save link as...' on right click to download this file. Now install it by double clicking on it.
Now type the code below on terminal.

antiX OS configuration and using

After using antiX os for several days I am focusing on some problems which need a little attention of developers. I think if they add or fix this things on next version told here, these customising will increase antiX operating systems user number more.

I have tried to do some customisation. but failed. I am not a software hungry techie geek. I just need to do some essential job. I am telling them one by one.

1. Connecting internet: I am a user of GPRS. I use it with Nokia e51 mobile phone. This gadget works fine as a broadband mobile device on Ubuntu, Peppermint os and Puppy linux. I have not click much to connecting internet. I don't going to tell about other os, I want to know solutions which occurs on 'antiX-M8.5'

a) Thank developers for both 'usb-modeswitch' and 'wvdial' installed. I edit wvdial.conf with leafpad. But 'gppp' have cannot connect. I wrote 'wvdial' on regular terminal but it said that ….. (Stay with me, I will tell it details on next post). I have to run 'wvdial' on 'root terminal' to connect every time I tried to connect. Is it normal to run 'root terminal' every time when I wish to connect internet?
b) After connecting internet I found that there is no any monitoring tool or application. So I think developers should add a 'network traffic monitoring tool' and or a 'network status monitor'. Puppy linux has this kind of applet on right bottom panel named 'blinky'.

2. Foreign Language: I wrote my own language using either SCIM or ibus input method system. None of them are installed on antix-m8.5. This is not fair. Developers should add SCIM or ibus on next versions. I see 'ibus' installed on 'synaptic package manager'. But don't work on any text editor. I did not found 'ibus' on 'Input Methods' on any text editor. I tried to start ibus or SCIM right clicking on text editors body.
3. A little portion of Help file should reviewed again: I tried to get some help from help file but failed. Because I can not follow some suggestions written on ANTIX > Help > antiX > antiX FAQ
It's on 'IceWM: Basic Customization' section. This section answer some common popular customization. I also tried to use the most used functions, but failed.
*I like to change 'timeformat' on right side of bottom panel. I got a tricks from default FAQ page.. It said:
Change to a 12- hr clock: click on Search on the menu bar, and enter 'timeformat'
I just sorry to say that I have not found any 'Search' on Main Menubar. I found 'Run' and tried that command on it. But given command don't work.
I also found "Search for Files or Folders" and "Searchmonkey" at 'Accessories' submenu (Get more menu entry snapshots from antiX linux operating system snapshot gallery). But they didn't found 'timeformat' for me.
4. Adding Links: It is a customisation of 'icewm'. I don't know how to add a customized link on bottom panel or mainmenu.
5. Customising 'Bottom Panel': I want to remove some link and add some more link on bottom panel. But no way. I don't know if it is weakness of 'icewm' or not.
6. .deb file installation: This is a Debian based distribution. But *.deb files can not be installed by double click. If .debs don't allowed or not support then what kind of Debian based distro is it?
7. Control Center: It has only one link on quick link area of bottom panel. I have not found it anywhere. I like to add a link of 'Control Center' in 'Applications' menu and remove the bottom link. I don't use control center simultaneously . So, I do not want to add it in front of my eye (easy looking area). After thinking and writing these lines I have found 'Control Center', but it named 'antiXCC'. Hard to understand that short form.
8. Conky text colour: Look at the image below. Can you understand any text written here. I guess you can't. It's ok, cause colour of conky text are so fade that it takes some more moments and concentration to understand. I don't know what is the reason to make texts pal. You may get a nice looking and huge informative '.conkyrc' file from the post "Download a 'conkyrc' file". Replace '.conkyrc' file found on home folder with downloaded .conkyrc file. Now on/off conky several time from Menu >Desktop> Settings> Conky on/off. You will see the changes instantly. You may read this post to get an feature rich conky for your desktop.
9. Offline Dictionary: I like to install a offline Dictionary like 'Gnome dictionary' (You may read 'Offline Dictionaries for Ubuntu'). Is it possible to get a one? If not, I suggest antix-m8.5 developers to add a offline dictionary on next release.
10. Reshuffling Menu Links: Menu items should reshuffle again. Some application are stayed here and there simultaneously. They should rearrange as by subject or by job or favourite or most used category.
11. There is no any 'Safely remove drive' type command on pcmanfm. What does it mean? Are usb drives do not require safely remove at pcman file manager? Is it a feature or a weakness?

I am not a geeky linux user. I am a member of usual linux user. I am facing these problem. So I am writing from my own view.

Default conky color on antiX m8.5 linux os

I don't like default conky color. So much fade that I can't see some information. To change color theme please read Sexy Conky on your Ubuntu or Mint Machine. Or you can Download a 'conkyrc' file from this post. You should replace .conkyrc file on home folder.

antiX Linux review from my view

Recently, I have download another light-weight Debian based Linux antiX. I install it on a separate harddisk. It installed successfully and have not delete other operating systems on grub menu. I use it for several hours. First of all I like the philosophy of naming itself. AntiX developed by 'anticatpitalist'. Great combination. I have not found any kind of history related to antiX operating system. I thought developer might be a diehard leftist. He is a protester of allkind of capitalism. I support you from the philosophical view.

I am trying antiX-M8.5-486 version. Code name is: Marek Edelman. I am not sure whether it is a codename or not. I saw this revolutionist on boot screen. I searched Google and found huge information about 'Marek Edelman'. Naming Linux using leftist name is a really unique idea. I also thought that Linux should be a power of poor people. 'Linux' itself and 'open source' are a revolution against all kind of capitalism act of software giants. Linux will always fight against all kind of fundamentalism, capitalism and terrorism. I think s/he tries to focus on this. I welcome you and I like and support this idea. I wish to see famous revolutionist face on next versions.

What I got?
1. Antix-m8.5 use icewm for doing activity with window related activities. It don't have any desktop icon but we can use 'Rox' window manager with desktop icon. I don't like to see many icons on desktop. I like iconless desktop on 'icewm'.

2. Antix-m8.5 use 'pcmanfm' as file manager. This works fine with me. I am satisfied to this tiny file manager. I use it on LXDE, I am joyful to know that pcmanfm also works on 'icewm'.

3. In Office menu antix-m8.5 include 'Calculator', 'AbiWord', 'ePDFviewer', 'Gnumeric', 'iceape Address Book', 'Osmo', 'Phonebook'. All are light-weight and full functional faster application. I think a general user does not need more in a office suit.

4. You would get many kind of essential application on Network menu. AntiX Default browser is 'Iceape' . It is a mozila related work and fork of Seaminkey. This full-featured web-browser worked fine for me. But I like to use Firefox and Google chrome (ium). You can chat, compose or check mail, browse through FTP etc. job with antix-m8.5.

5. There are many items on Multimedia section. You can play audio, video, can rip any audio CD or burn CD or DVD. You can record sound with external microphone and edit. You can use webcam using 'Cheese', Gxine also included for better video viewing experience. Antix also added famous 'Goggles Music Manager' (I wrote a post on it, named: …...). DVD slideshow making is very easy with 'imagination' a simple and lightweight DVD slideshow maker. It has famous audio player XMMS (x multimedia system). This is a look alike of famous windows based audio player 'WinAmp'. When I was on 'windows', I never ever use another music player instead of winamp. After transforming in linuxuser I found XMMS, but as a Ubuntu user I always missed it (I don't know what's the problem within ubuntu and xmms.). Antix-m8.5 also include 'Mplayer'. It is a famous and powerful video player on Linux.

6. Game: It has only 3 (Three) Games installed. It also has a 'DOSBox Emulator', So you can run DOS games using this. It also have my alltime favourite 'Lbreakout', also has 'sudoku-savant', and 'xmahjongg'.

7. Default background is really great. I like to get some information about this image, but can't. Nothing wrote anywhere.

At last I must say that I like the idea. This is really a very light operating system. Puppy also a light runner, but antiX has pcmanfm for exploring files and folder. Rox is also powerful and better. But it only support only 'one click' option. I am not familiar with it. (I will tell you later, why I like pcmanfm file management)

I think if Mepis or own community keep support to it, antiX will go many miles on future.

Sorry, Mutter closed unexpectedly on Ubuntu 10.10

I am just exploring and understanding various features on Ubuntu 10.10 netbook. I install it on a usb stick and running from it. I am not sure what cause this problem. But I think after closing a window suddenly a message appear and says

Sorry, Mutter closed unexpectedly

This message box also include a request. It say

If you were not doing anything confidential (entering passwords or other private information, you can help to improve the application by reporting the problem.

Mutter is a window manager for ubuntu netbook edition. I am not sure why it happened. Is it a bug?

Blogger 'Blog posts' gadget is not loading

After publishing last post, when I refresh my blog (opened on another tab), I found that my blog's 'Blog posts' gadget was not load. Look at the image I used here. Everything is fine but 'blogposts' is not showing themself. Right sidebar links work perfectly, but on homepage there is no 'blogposts'. What a peculiar type of peoblem on blogger.com blog??!@!@#!!?

antiX M8.5 operating system desktop

I download an another flavour of Debian based Linux. It called 'antiX'. It use icewm as a window manager. So, it takes a very small space to install itself. It can be run in any lightweight hardware. (Window Manager 'WM' is not a desktop environment, so has no many feature. But, it also do necessary jobs.)

Not like others, antiX include various file manager by default. You can use 'Rox' (Used in Puppylinux) or 'pcmanfm' (Used in LXDE) both in this nice distro. So, it will run on older computer. Recommended RAM is 128MB but you can use 64MB to install it. It can operate older PII 266 systems. It takes 1.2GB hard disk space.

There are plenty of applications I found on Main Menu. I don't want to discuss them here. I will publish another posts on 'antiX screen-shot' .

Thank you 'antiX' for not deleting my systems 'grub' options. Other installations are showing on grub menu.

In this moment I am using antiX to publish this post and browsing internet. That means, I have successfully configured antiX to connecting internet via my Nokia E51 mobile phone. Have a simple problem. 'wvdial' command require root terminal to connect. General user terminal start dial, found misc signal ok but at last it failed to connect. It said:

Could not modify /etc/ppp/chap-secrets: Permission denied

I will post details later. Without this problem I feel happy with 'antiX' linux.

PCLinuxOS failed to connect GPRS Edge internet via mobile phone

You may know that I use Nokia E 51 mobile phone to connect internet. At my last post (PCLinuxOS LXDE Review and Screenshots) I said that I will publish a post about why I don't recommend you PCLinux OS to use as first Operating system. Here, I am publishing my explanation.

I tried to connect my mobile phone as a 'Mobile Broadband Device'. But failed. PClinux OS have not give me any chance to use my mobile set. It detect my phone but did not show it on file manager or network manager. Look at the images I use in this post.

I started from 'PCLinuxOS control Center'. At 'Network and Internet' section I clicked on 'Set up a new network interface (LAN, ISDN, ADSL,...)'. Then a newer window come and ask me to submit some information.

I have not anything to write in this form. And the result is: 'No device found for this type of connection'.

At 'NetApplet' on the right side of bottom pannel, I found a connection called 'usbpn0'. I clicked on it. But failed. Look at the image just above. It shows that 'Nokia E51 Network is down'. I also found that default connection is 'ethernet'. I have not find any way to make Nokia E51 connection as default.

After trying in my way at last I failed to connect internet by PCLinux OS LXDE. I believe that other version like kde, gnome will behave same. They would not able to connect gprs internet using any mobile phone.

I searched synaptic package manager. I found that 'usbmodeswitch' is installed. Though pclinux os failed to use my mobile phone as a mobile broadband device.

Dear Reader,
So, I suggest you to not use PCLinux OS at first time. Use Ubuntu or Peppermint OS and discover that connecting internet is so much easy that you can not dream.

PCLinuxOS LXDE Review and Screenshots

Some days ago PC Linux OS has destroyed my everything, when I install it on a hard disk. None of any Linux distribution behave bad like this way with me before. Though, I wanted to test the flavour of this so called famous Linux distribution. I download several variant like

I run them on 'Oracle VM Virtual Box'. I am really impressed to viewing the nice colour combination of this operating system. I agree that developers has a colourful mind. But, what happened next, I will tell you later. Here, I am sharing some screenshot of 'PCLinuxOS LXDE 2010'.

I know that PCLinuxOS is a Red Hat based distribution. Authority publish this distro decorating it with various desktop environment. It has kde, gnome, lxde, xfce, openbox various version. So, end user can choose it as their requirement. If anybody has modern, higher, powerful hardware then they should choose kde based version, if anybody want to try it on low-end machine, then they will choose lxde or xfce version. This is a really good and freindly idea. I like it.
You know, I am a fan of light and faster desktop environment. So, I peek LXDE version to introduce with you.

Features I found:
As the name says, this flavour based on LXDE. After testing Peppermint os and install LXDE on Ubuntu, I am quite familiar with this environment. So, I play with panel, menu, desktop decoration like theme, colour, icon, cursor. I also click on synaptic package manager and test configuration items on main menu. They changed its name. Originally it named 'preference'. This is not a subject to discuss. They can do it.

AbiWord is added by default. But anybody can download Openoffice by clicking on 'Get OpenOffice' button.
MP3 don't start with double click. It require drag and drop on LX Music Player.
Default video player is SM Player. It can play many video format. I tried with mpg, mpeg, flv, avi etc. and succeed.
Folders or files are selecting automatically. At first I thought that my mouse has problem. But after some seconds I understood that it is a feature.
Firefox is default web browser.
GIMP, Imagemagick, MTPaint are added on Graphics section.
They also added Bleachbit, the great system cleaner

By default when it comes to desktop it runs on 'Guest' account. Everybody logged in as 'guest' at first time (Live mode). Login information are showing on desktop as image. Username and password. guest-guest, root-root.

What I found different?
Nope. There is no any special application which I have not found on Peppermint or LXDE on Ubuntu. But I have found a huge difference with other distro in a fancy area. It is on 'Screen Saver' section. If you like various kind of screensaver then you might like this distro very much. I don't like this kind of graphical illusionary thing so much. Actually I don't need to use screensaver too often. Though, I should say that I found some screensaver here, which I wish to get on Ubuntu or Peppermint os by default.

And last, I must say that, I would not recommend PCLinuxOS to you. Why? Read the next post.

You may know that there is no any way to add any customise link on Blogger.com blog's pagelist menu. Only page links are show on this menu. But if we so much curious to add a link here then try a little as described below.

Log in blogger.com account with google id and password.
Go directly to Design> Edit HTML
Tick on 'Expand Widget Templates'
Now search for 'PageList1' widget.
On the 14th line of this widget you will get </b:loop>
Add your preferred link just after this code.
Creat a link like this

Changed Twitter Account Name

When I create account on twitter first, I did not get this name available. So, I need to take an another one. I add an extra 'r' after 'netgator', that means 'netgatorr'. I did not like it anymore. I always think to change it.

Docky: Alternative Panel for Ubuntu Linux

We have discussed about an alternative of the default Gnome. We introduce with ADesk Bar: Alternative Panel for Ubuntu . This will work on any Gnome or LXDE desktop environment like Ubuntu older to 10.10, Linux Mint, Lubuntu or Peppermint os etc. Today we are going to know about an another attractive alternate of default bottom panel. It's name is "Docky". It is a full fledged dock application that makes opening common applications and managing windows easier and quicker. Docky is fully integrated into the GNOME Desktop and features a no non-sense approach to configuration and usage. It just works.

I have just reading an article on open source software. Famous open source activist Richard Stallman wrote on "Why we need to use it, why we should support it etc." I like to share this article with you all.

He said only about schools and necessity of open source software. He said:
The purpose of this article is to state additional reasons that apply specifically to education.

First, free software can save schools money. Free software gives schools, like other users, the freedom to copy and redistribute the software, so the school system can make copies for all the computers they have. In poor countries, this can help close the digital divide.
