Why we should not use Microsoft Office

Day by day many computer user start to use Linux. There are many reason for this change. But the first reason is (I guess) it is free of cost. But there are many more reason for not using Microsoft product such windows or office. I just read an another tremendous issue about Microsoft office. I support the philosophy about not using word document. I support it. But I have a simple question to GNU. How long the 'odt' format will be supported by open community? For 100 years or more?
