Blogging software on Ubuntu Linux

Next moth I am going to hibernate. Those days I will not be available on internet. It may stay atleast 20-30 days. I want to write blogpost at my offtime. How do I do that? There is easy and common way to do that. Writing thoughts or analysis in a text file or open office and save it. One month late when I come back then do only copy and paste. Yes it is a easiest method to do such kind of job. But I am looking for a different tool. I am looking for a blogging software or a blogging client or a blogging tool in Ubuntu Linux. There are many same kind of offline/desktop blogging tool available for windows. But what about linux.

Peppermint Ice OS review

Peppermint OS is a LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) based operating system. Which means it require less hardware, less memory then other linux distribution. After releasing its first version it attract lot of people. Day by day Peppermint OS is taking a honorable place in linux community. My good-luck that I know PeppermintOS from its first stage. Recently I have just read a review about Peppermint OS. I am sharing them with you now.

Lee Matheus wrote on Downloadsquad.com. Title: "Peppermint Ice is like Chrome OS without sacrificing local apps". He meet PeppermintOS developer Kendall Weaver. His OS takes only 6 seconds to boot in his core2 notebook. Lee said about people that they thought a lighter distro should not have many local apps by default. They compare it with Google chrome OS. Some techie person thought that less native apps theory should apply on any lighter linux distribution. But Peppermint OS stand other side of so called popular thought. So developer include some essential local apps with many webapps. Lee wrote on the post that:
Peppermint is a solid Linux distribution for people who just want to surf but don't want to give up the flexibility which Linux distros typically provide. The interface is clean and simple, and should be familiar to anyone who's ever used Windows XP. Hey, if my 5-year-old can jump in and find his YouTube favorites on Peppermint, the learning curve can't be too steep (if it even exists).

PeppermintOS ICE menu screenshots

I have installed Ice flavour of Peppermint OS. It is more webcentric, more mobile. There are some differences on application collection. There is no 'Calculator' on Accessories submenu, no firefox, no printer support etc. You may take a look at PeppermintOS ONE Menu Screenshot Gallery.
Now I am running two operating systems in a single harddisk. It is called dual boot. I will write a simple review about Peppermint ICE later. Today I am publishing screenshots of PeppermintOS ICE menu items. Look at the list. Only most necessary applications are added in this distro. Default browser is Chromium. But you can download and install firefox via 'Software Manager. You can modify one or ice as your needs at anytime.

File manager crash in PeppermintOS One

In Peppermint OS One there is a common problem. After first update PCManFM 0.9.7 file manager crash. I also faced this problem. After first update suddenly I found that if I click on any link in left sidebar of file manager, it suddenly go stop and closed. I thought this is my own problem related to my wrong command. But when I visit Peppermint OS forum then I found that there are many user who also faced same problem.

Just copy and paste this command one by on in terminal
apt update
apt purge pcmanfm2 pcmanfm2-dbg
apt install pcmanfm
Now restart your computer or logout and login.

You should remap file manager icon (Launcher) on bottom panel.
Right click on broken icon/ link and go to "Application Launch Bar Settings". Remove older link from left side and add a new one from right side.

I get this tuto from a post in Peppermint OS Forum named "Fixing a crashing file manager".

iBus input method missing in Peppermint Solved

I have published a post iBus problem in Peppermint OS. I am having problem to write in foreign language. After searching for days I found the root of problem and discover the solution by myself. At first when I tried to select an 'input method system' I saw that there is no any input method system in menu on iBus preferences. I found that the cause of this problem is 'ibus-m17n' is not installed on my computer. I was not sure if iBus is installed default or not. Suddenly I found ibus is on Preferences menu and trying to using it. I understand that my system gets a update. In that time it may installed by system itself. But did not install any m17n data. This is the problem. To get the input method system I must install m17n data in my computer.

I search 'iBus' in 'synaptic package manager' and get a huge number of packages to download. You may get confused which files you should download to write in foreign language. Look at these three screen-shots below.

Download these two tiny package:-
Second steps.
  • Douable click on the "usb-modeswitch-data" file. Install it first.
  • Then install "usb-modeswitch" double clicking that file.
  • No need to configure to work this packages properly.
If you connect internet this machine with an other device (such with a mobile phone) then you can install "usb-modeswitch" files from "Synaptic package manager". Look at here..
download usb modem modeswitch using synaptic package manager in ubuntu and linux mintAfter download and install you need to restart your computer. Restart your machine.

  • When your PC start completely, connect Huawei usb modem in a usb connection.

How to automount drive in Ubuntu

We know that in Windows NTFS format harddrives do not mount automatically. We need to double click on drivelatter to mount it. This is quite disturbing and cause of some problem too. Say, you have some song in Rhythmbox Music player Library. Those MP3 files are at one of your windows NTFS drive. If that drive is not mount automatically after Ubuntu start, then you will get 'Error' message running a mp3.

We can solve this problem with a little application named 'ntfs-config'. Just enable 'write permission' then your preferred drive will be mount automatically after Ubuntu startup.

  • Write the code below at terminal. You may need to submit password. (Connect in Internet).
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get ntfs-config
  • Necessary dependency and main application will download from internet.
  • To start that NTFS mounting application type the code below in terminal.
sudo ntfs-config
Now configure it as you need.

Peppermint OS made me sorrow

In this moment I am downloading Peppermint OS with Downloader for X download manager. Last week I have faced some problem with various Linux based Operating system. I use Nokia e51 to connect internet. In ubuntu I found my cell phone automatically and setup as "Mobile broadband ". I am searching a light, stable linux distro to operate a older pc. So I downloaded more then 20 distro to check. Most of them failed to detect Nokia e51 and I cannot able to connect with internet. Searching some days I choose PCLinuxOS to install in harddisk. I checked all downloaded OS (.iso files) in "Virtual Box OSE". PuppyLinux is better. It can detect and make ready to run my Nokia phone with some tweaking. But I found firefox bug is still in puppylinux. They failed to solve this problem (Sudden close, Crashed, Hanging).

My badluck "PCLinux OS" also failed to configure my nokia cell phone. Now I am trying to test "PepperminsOS". Downloading it and come to their forum to check my phone's state. Please view the image below (Click on image to see bigger screenshot or peppermint os forum). You'll notice that some questions are not answering for more then one month.

BleachBit is best junk cleaner in Ubuntu

Best Junk Cleaner in UbuntuI think BleachBit is best junk cleaner in Ubuntu computer system. Everyday we visit internet, do many work, done huge file works and made a ton of junk file in temporary folder. This process can fillup your harddisk space. So we need to clean them manualy. There are some system cleaner software available for Ubuntu linux (All version). But in my opinion BleachBit is the best junk cleaner in Ubuntu world.

Why?
In description page it says:
BleachBit deletes unnecessary files to free valuable disk space, maintain privacy, and remove junk. It removes cache, Internet history, temporary files, cookies, and broken shortcuts.

It handles cleaning of Adobe Reader, BAsh, Beagle, Epiphany, Firefox, Flash, GIMP, Google Earth, Java, KDE, OpenOffice.org, Opera, RealPlayer, Rpmbuild, Second Life viewer, VIM, XChat, and more.

Beyond simply erasing junk files, BleachBit wipes free disk space (to hide previously deleted files for privacy and to improve compression of images), and securely shreds arbitrary files.

How to get?
This useful software is available in Ubuntu Software Center. Type 'BleachBit' in searchbox and hit Enter.'BleachBit in Ubuntu Software Center
Now install it.
